Our Community

The Mission
To serve the physical, social, cultural & spiritual needs of at- risk families with children residing in Phoenix’s Central City South. MSMF’s primary focus is targeting families with children between the ages of 12-18; which are at risk for engaging in problematic behavior that affects the quality of their lives and that of the community. Although these families come from various backgrounds, they are disproportionately represented among those of minority and low socioeconomic status.

Target Area
MSMF target is in the Phoenix’s Central City South (CCS) Community. This area is located immediately south of downtown Phoenix. The general boundaries are Central Avenue on the east, Interstate 17 (I-17) freeway on the west, Jackson Street on the north and I-17 south. CCS has at least 10 distinct neighborhoods or areas, many of which have active neighborhood associations or block watch groups. The Community is ethnically diverse with 70.5 percent Hispanic, 19.5 percent African American, 7.2 percent Anglo, 1.8 percent Native American and 1 percent representing other ethnic or racial groups. More than 60 percent of the residents live below the federal poverty level (1990 and 1995 Census).
